Construction of this Catholic church began in 1548 and it has undergone many changes over the years, displaying a mixture of architectural styles. Its tower is particularly noteworthy and has been modified several times, but it retains the original Angelote, the guardian angel that crowns it and serves as a weather vane. It also houses important works of art, such as the Christ of the Mayor Dolor, a masterpiece sculpted by Andrés de Carvajal. A large part of the ancient treasure of the Collegiate Church of San Sebastián has been transferred and is now on display at the Antequera City Museum.
