Pope Adrian VI College, also known as Pauscollege, is one of Leuven's historic colleges, founded in 1523 thanks to the will of Pope Adrian VI, the only pope from the Netherlands. Originally intended to accommodate poor theology students, it is located in the heart of the city, at number 3 Hogeschoolplein, not far from St. Michael's Church. The college has survived the centuries and has been used for various purposes: student residence, headquarters of the General Seminary, hospital, barracks, and today it still serves as accommodation for students of the Catholic University of Leuven.
The current building, rebuilt after collapsing in 1775, boasts impressive classical architecture. Its remarkable façade, with its tall pilasters and central avant-corps decorated with the arms of Adrian VI, bears witness to the grandeur of the place. The peaceful inner courtyard, decorated with contemporary works of art, offers a pleasant contrast to the bustle of the nearby city centre. Since 1973, it has been listed as a historic monument and is one of the most admired heritage sites in Leuven.
