The delta of the Guadalhorce, the large river in the province of Málaga, has become a nature reserve where you can go on nature walks and photograph wild birds and plants. Last winter I was able to photograph, among other things, the European greenfinch (Chloris chloris), a small, stocky passerine bird, around 15 cm long, recognisable by its greenish plumage with bright yellow highlights on the wings and tail, and its powerful conical beak, which is adapted to seeds. Males are brighter than females, whose colours are duller and brownish. It is frequently seen in gardens, hedgerows and open woods, where its undulating flight and melodious song, consisting of clear notes and rapid trills, betray its presence. It feeds mainly on seeds, but supplements its diet with insects in spring to feed its young.
